What is Sensory Stimulation?
Sensory stimulation is essential for people of all ages. Sensory activities use everyday familiar objects to arouse one or more of the five senses (hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch) to evoke an emotional response. Used in Europe since the 1960s, this therapy was initially designed to help people with learning disabilities. It allowed them to explore a safe, stimulating environment that provided age-appropriate and enjoyable activity.
